Notebook Sketches 9

I was able to pick up some new colors and try them out. I got a rose color that is so powerful that I bet I dont go through the tube in a year. Some of the colors are potent. There is a world of color out there and it is time to embrace it.

Plus, I got a new notebook.

Happy New year.

  1. Happy New Year to you too Gregory. I think you could use that rose to glaze over golds and even earth colours to create warm, maybe used on it's own it would be very strong. You have been so busy creatively, each of your works is so different, that is good as they have their own mood and colours. My eye keeps going back to the fifth one down it looks like a moorland with some interesting shades of green and landscaping.

  2. Hi Caroline, The fifth one down I used a mixture cobalt blue and cad orange to create a gray that I used to glaze over the landscape to create shadow patterns and isolate dashes of light.
I hadn't thought of using the rose to do that. Wow my mind is racing with that idea. Thank you so much.
Will that rose warm up in glazes? Out of the tube it is a cool next to cad red. Oh I see, the warmth of the earth colors lends its' warmth to the rose. Brilliant. I am going to experiment with that.
This New year is looking better and better each day.

  3. You have been busy! My favorite is the 4th from the top. I like the composition and design; great contrast between the dark trees and pools of light along the road. There is a lot going on behind the scenes in these little sketches. It will be cool to see how these studies lead to larger works.

  4. It is killing me not to get out my oils and start pushing it around. I think that the fourth one down is my favorite also.
