Notebook Sketches 6

A day of sketches.

I want everyone to know how grateful I am that you take time to visit my blog. In the colder months I paint in watercolor because my daughter has asthma. I dont paint with oils during this time because the fumes may trigger an attack.

I will probably use better paper because my ideas are flowing and try to work from these sketches for color inspiration.

These sketches are mostly about atmosphere and color but I actually would like to develop some larger work from the compositions as well.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Cheers

  5. You have some great ideas here for future paintings Gregory, often the type of paper used will change the way the watercolour washes flow. Looking forward to seeing more of your work soon. Merry Christmas!

  7. Gregory you might like trying your sketches on a number of different types of papers, 60, 65, 85, 90, 125 &300 lb paper. Guaranteed you will blow your mind. These are great sketches.
I found it was good to not get uptight about any expensive paper. I sketch/paint all the time... on really cheap paper (books of them) then got nudged into trying some scraps of Rives BFK , 85,90, 125 lb papers all brands, types etc.... what a difference it made for me. I still use really cheap paper , but now I also use a wide variety of other papers and like what the different surfaces offer. Surface is where its at in pastel, watercolor, acrylics and oils. I'm trying many and really an amazed a what some of them allow me to do.

  8. Hi Mary, I often use different varieties of paper and attempt to allow their natural properties to become a participating factor in the finished work but I really love that beauty can be found in things we usually find little value in.
    Thanks for taking a look.
