Watercolor With Additions of Ink

Here is a water color and india ink painting. Too complicated to explain the technique but I think it yielded a good result.
Cheers

  1. One day when you're feeling brave, I'd love to know the technique :) This has a great amount of atmosphere to it yet is so simple...indeed, this is my favourite thing about your work.

  2. Caroline I may actually have to do a video. If I'm drawing or oil painting I can talk all day describing each step but when it comes to watercolor,I get really quiet. I dont know why that is either. I'll try to do a step by step one day but some of the work is wet into wet.

  3. Your work does always have soulful atmosphere, I agree! This is a nice result too, but I won't experiment mixed techniques- a simple paintbrush can get to be too much!

  5. I can't tell you how much I like this painting, Gregory - simple, subtle, rich tonality, and beautifully composed. I've come back several times to look at it again over the past couple of days. I also like the series of tonal watercolors you've posted more recently as well.

  6. Brian, It pleases me to know that there is something in my work that speaks to you. Art has an incredible capacity to speak honestly and with familiarity. You probably know me better than the people I see on a daily basis and know only as aquantances.
With art there is no..."How are you doing?" or "Lovely weather we're having, isn't it?"
    No, none of that...just honesty.
This is how people should meet.
