A painting can be a mirror to our soul and to pause and gaze at the reflection is not vanity.
These are so good. That little hint of white charcoal (or pastel) in the water of the second one creates a great focal point. I think if you combine the tightness of these with the atmosphere you are getting in your gouache studies, you may come up with some wonderful landscape paintings reminiscent of the Hudson River School
